Exploring the newspaper was quite an experience for me. I expected something very old and boring, but now believe that newspapers are still competitive in some aspects. At least on a local level.
“Vecherniy Almaty”, for example, is much better than any other local Internet newspaper. While Internet newspapers write only about something big, viewing the city from their expensive offices; this newspaper writes real human stories from the streets that form the image of the city.

My first news was taken from “Vecherniy Almaty”. It’s about the guy who walked from Moscow to Almaty.

For the second one, I bought “Vremya” – and picked the news about a woman from Aktobe who stood with picket against corruption.
What can I say about them? Well, both hit the target audience of their newspapers. First one is chosen because it’ll be interesting for Almaty citizens – and because “Vecherka” can be called a lifestyle newspaper. The second one is about regional politics – because “Vremya” is read around all over Kazakhstan, and because it writes about serious things like politics or economics.
Both news are covered pretty well. First one explains the motivation – the main interest of anyone who reads it. The second one is the type of news that requires “both sides” to see the whole picture. And it’s good that the journalist asked “both sides”.
What about strengths and weaknesses? The second note has a huge problem compared to first – language. The first one is written grammatically correct and easy to read. Second has moments, where I cannot understand anything. Even the second sentence is a joke – I thought that it was a journalist opinion! And maybe it is.
But I’m glad that the second news exists. It proves that the journalists in newspapers are not humiliated completely – and can create some attention.
First one is not so important – just an interesting note. But compared to all problems of the second one, it has only one weakness – they forget to mention this guy’s social networks. I wanted to subscribe!

Seems like these two news article are totally different, but you managed to explain and compare messages between them. The motivations may be different but still.
